SENSOLIFE Partners with Leading Universities for AI and Elderly Health Research
Lisbon, Portugal — In a major step toward strengthening the scientific backbone of its AI technology, SENSOMATT Lda. has entered into formal research partnerships with two of Europe’s top academic institutions: the University of Porto and the University of Lisbon.
These collaborations will fuel a new research initiative focused on voice-based biomarkers for early dementia detection, ethical AI development in gerontechnology, and long-term cognitive behavior modeling using real-world, anonymized interaction data from SENSOLIFE devices.
Bridging Innovation and Academia
While SENSOLIFE is already active in care homes and clinical pilots, this academic partnership marks a shift toward deeper scientific validation and AI transparency.
The joint research will explore:
- Temporal changes in elderly speech patterns as predictive indicators of cognitive decline
- Development of multimodal learning frameworks combining linguistic, emotional, and behavioral cues
- Ethical frameworks for deploying AI with sensitive populations, including consent, data privacy, and algorithmic fairness
- Co-design of cognitive testing modules for non-invasive daily engagement
“Working with academic experts ensures that our AI evolves responsibly — grounded in peer-reviewed science, not just engineering intuition,” said Ahmad, SENSOLIFE’s lead AI scientist.
Pilot Research Streams
Three main research streams will begin under this collaboration:
- Voice-to-Cognition Mapping
- Using anonymized voice recordings from voluntary SENSOLIFE users (with full GDPR-compliant consent), researchers will study early markers of neurodegeneration reflected in rhythm, vocabulary, and articulation timing.
- Personalized AI Modeling
- Joint PhD research will focus on how personal AI “twins” evolve and how individual learning models can outperform static, global baselines in elderly care contexts.
- Caregiver-AI Interaction Feedback Loops
In partnership with geriatric psychologists, studies will track how family members and professional caregivers interpret and respond to alerts generated by the SENSOLIFE Caregiver Dashboard.
Institutional Support & Funding
These partnerships are partially supported by national innovation grants and are aligned with Horizon Europe’s strategic goals for age-inclusive AI and digital public health infrastructure.
SENSOMATT Lda. has also opened opportunities for thesis supervision, internships, and applied AI labs at both universities, ensuring a pipeline of skilled young researchers in this emerging field.
“This is not just a research agreement. It’s a co-creation process between engineers, ethicists, and medical scientists — building the future of AI for care,” said a professor from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lisbon.
What This Means for SENSOLIFE
This academic integration will:
- Enhance the credibility and reliability of SENSOLIFE’s AI analysis engine
- Enable faster iteration of predictive models using evidence-based improvements
- Support publication of results in open-access journals and medical conferences
- Strengthen compliance with future EU regulatory standards for AI in care settings
Most importantly, it helps ensure that SENSOLIFE doesn’t just work — it works with integrity.
